cahier-4-EN

This fourth issue of the Cahiers de la Chaire Immobilier et Développement Durable offers an overview of the regional and real estate impacts of the digital revolution. Through some twenty interviews with relevant thinkers and actors it seeks to analyze how the digital economy, which is growing fast in terms of job creation and GDP contribution, is shaping regions and transforming our urban environment. As well as the boom in technological innovations that serve the smart city, this new economy is stimulating creation of new types of real estate property, while the digital technologies themselves are producing alternative ways to design and build those properties. Whichever way you look at it, the society of the future will be digitally-influenced. Public authorities and the real estate industry have no choice but to respond to this profound change by finding new practices and models for action.

How do the specific real estate requirements of digital actors, beginning with start-ups, translate spatially? What local variants of the Californian Silicon Valley model are emerging? How can local authorities seize this major opportunity to develop their appeal? Are the digital giants likely to interfere in the construction of our large cities?
